Wentworth Club's controversial owners have reportedly offered Tiger Woods $4 million to build a new version of the famous Surrey course on land outside Bangkok, claims a report in The Telegraph.

The Virginia Water club has fallen into something of a financial hole since the £135 million takeover by Chinese-Thai billionaire Chanchai Ruayrungruang five years ago, and as a result the owners have come under fire from members.

But a report in The Telegraph this week claims a delegation from Wentworth went to visit the 15-time major champion at his home in Jupiter, Florida in January, offering him a whopping $4 million to help build a new layout similar to that of Wentworth but on land outside of Bangkok.

The plans would also include a replica of Wentworth's distinctive clubhouse that was built in the 1920s, "complete with its distinctive turrets and ivy."

The Telegraph has also been told that Wentworth members are considering fresh legal action against Reignwood - the company that owns Wentworth - after it recently made it clear that 200 members would have to pay up to £150,000 to join a debenture scheme on top of annual fees of more than £10,000.

Also, a further 1,200 members at Wentworth Club who use both the tennis courts and health centre are also going to be exepcted to have their memberships terminated.

Wentworth announced last week "better than expected" financial results and that it was going ahead with "plans to be a debenture-only club".
